HIV CLINIC
HIV testing is essential so that you may know whether or not you may have HIV. HIV testing may detect HIV infection, but it can't tell how long you may have HIV or if the person has AIDs (Acquired Immunodeficiency Virus). People that are HIV positive experience the following symptoms such as fever, fatigue, swollen lymph nodes, oral yeast infection or thrush, shingles and weight loss.
If you have been diagnosed with HIV, it’s essential that you see Dr Tabane, who is trained to diagnose and treat HIV, to assist you:
- Determine whether you need additional blood testing
- Determine which HIV antiretroviral therapy (ART) will be best suited for you
- To monitor your progress and work to manage your health
If you receive a diagnosis of HIV, there are several tests that aid Dr Tabane to determine the stage of your disease and the best treatment for you. The test includes:
- HIV Antibody Test (3rd Generation HIV Test) – the HIV Antibody Test is a blood test that searches the blood sample for antibodies which were created by the B cells in the immune system in response to the invasion of the HIV type 1 or type 2.
- HIV Antibody Test (4th Generation HIV Test) – also known as Antigen Combination Test is a blood test where the antibodies that the immune system makes are detected, to fight off HIV type 1 or type 2, and the antigens of the HIV
- Viral load (HIV RNA Test) – this is a blood test which measures the amount of virus in the body. The main goal for HIV treatment is to have an undetectable viral load, after starting with the HIV medicine. This will then reduce the chances of opportunistic infection and other HIV related complications.
If you are HIV-positive but can’t afford HIV medicine, worry not. Dr Tabane is currently offering free HIV testing and HIV treatment which includes the antiretroviral pills and vitamins.
